1. Is it dangerous for my knees to pass over my toes during a deep squat?

No. Letting your knees track past your toes is an entirely natural, healthy biomechanical requirement for achieving full depth, provided your heels remain completely flat on the floor. Forcing your shins to stay perfectly vertical redirects excessive mechanical strain directly onto your lower back.

2. What causes the lower back to round or tuck at the bottom of a squat (butt wink)?

A "butt wink" typically points to limited mobility in your ankle joints (dorsiflexion) or structural stiffness in your hip joints, rather than just tight hamstrings. When your ankles stop flexing forward, your pelvis is forced to tilt backward to let your center of mass descend lower.

3. Why do my knees cave inward when pushing back up to the top?

Knees caving inward (valgus collapse) indicates underactive or weak hip external rotators, specifically the gluteus medius. Actively focus on pressing your knees outward so they stay perfectly lined up with your second and third toes during both the lowering and lifting phases.

4. How much total body weight is loaded during a strict bodyweight squat?

During a bodyweight squat, most of your body mass contributes to the movement while your feet remain planted. This means squats create a substantial lower-body training stimulus even without external weights.

5. How can I scale my lower body progression if regular squats feel too easy?

Once you can easily cross 30 clean repetitions per set, shift your tracking toward unilateral variations. Try implementing split squats, archer squats, or standard pistol squats. These single-leg variations immediately double the relative loading on your working joints while challenging your core stabilization.
